Adopt-A-School Programme: Burke Basic School

We understand how important it is to start our children right, right from the start and we know that many other early childhood institutions need support in order to deliver quality services in safe and nurturing learning environments

Cari-Med Ltd. formally adopted the then Burke’s Early Childhood Education Centre in 2005, two years before the Cari-Med Foundation was established. Under the programme, the Foundation supports needy students through the provision of annual grants, provides resource support for computer facilities, and stages events throughout the year including Labour Day activities and an annual Christmas treat.

In outlining the reasons behind Foundation’s decision to develop the Adopt A School Programme, General Manager of Car-Med Ltd. Dennis Grant stated, "This initiative falls in line with our numerous efforts to make a lasting, tangible contribution to Jamaica’s human capital. The programme reiterates our company’s commitment to Jamaica and most especially the young people of our beloved country. I strongly believe that these young ones here at Burke are Jamaica’s future, worthy of our love, respect, attention and protection."

Five years later, the Burke Basic School is growing from strength to strength. The Foundation recently adopted the Evelyn Mitchell Infant School in Top Hill Clarendon, and we plan to expand the Adopt a School Programme further.
